Nine out of Ten

The Jebsen & Jessen (SEA) Executive Board decided to set up a presence in Brunai after members Heinrich Jessen and Fritz von der Schulenburg, together with representatives from several Regional Business Units, had visited the sultante to explore business opportunities this July.

The two-day visit (July 18-20) was hosted by  Board Director Dato Timothy Ong and included a courtesy call on HRH Prince Abdul Qawi, a leading businessman with interest in telecommunications, property development, waste management and oil & gas, and a dinner with HE Ambassador Thomas Bruns (German Ambassador to Brunei).

On July 19, the delegation received a briefing on Brunei’s economy by Brunei Economic Development Board CEO Mr Vincent Cheong, which was followed by a business networking lunch with prominent guests form the Brunei business community.

“Brunei is small yet interesting market and we decided to set-up a presence,” says Executive Vice Chairman Fritz von der Schulenburg. “The country’s dominant economic sector is the oil & gas industry where we potentially see some business opportunities for our cable, technology or material handling business.

“There’s also an existing market for our turf & irrigation equipment and, following the country’s wish to develop non-oil and gas industries, hopefully an entry for our chemicals and communications business. As a truly South East Asian group, we look forward to entering what is from our perspective the ninth ASEAN country.”
