Operating indicators for April 2012

Singapore Changi Airport managed 4.21 million passenger movements in April 2012, 12.7% higher than the same month last year.  Aircraft movements increased correspondingly by 8.8% to 26,400 movements.

During the month, passenger traffic improved on-year across all regions with routes to and from the Middle East, South Asia, Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia achieving strong results.  Among Changi’s key markets, China, India and Japan registered the strongest growth.  With connections to 26 Chinese cities and 11 Indian destinations, Changi Airport is the most connected point to China and India from Southeast Asia.

Reflecting the current downturn faced by most export markets around the world, Changi Airport handled 4.9% less cargo in April.  148,200 tonnes of cargo passed through Changi during the month underlined by a 9% decrease in exports.  On a rolling 12-month basis, Changi moved 1.86 million tonnes of cargo, a growth of 1.3%.

Changi Airport serves 100 airlines operating some 6,200 weekly flights connecting Singapore to more than 220 destinations in 60 countries.

Other highlights

New Outlets – Fashion accessory retailer Chomel has opened a new outlet at Terminal 1’s transit area.  Chomel offers a variety of interesting accessories as well as fashion timepieces, handbags and shawls.  Over in the public area of Terminal 1, supermarket chain Cold Storage has opened a new store in Basement 2.

Free Shuttle Service – Changi Airport has launched a new shuttle bus service   providing direct access to the airport for residents in Bedok.  The pick-up and drop-off location is at the Bedok MRT Station bus-stop, opposite the Bedok Bus Interchange.  The non-stop service to Terminal 3 operates hourly from 11.30am to 9.30pm on weekends and public holidays.  In addition to this new route, a shuttle service currently connects Changi Airport to the Sengkang MRT station, also on weekends and public holidays.

Singapore Changi Airport managed 4.28 million passenger movements in March 2012, representing the highest number of passengers ever handled at Changi during the month of March. Passenger traffic for the month increased 15.3% year-on-year, in tandem with the increase in aircraft movements which grew 10.6% to 27,000. Airfreight movements decreased 1.8% to 163,000 tonnes during the month.

Passenger traffic at Changi Airport increased 11.2% to 3.77 million in February 2012. There was strong travel demand across all regions with traffic between Singapore and the Middle East growing by more than 20%. Other regions also grew by double digits. Aircraft landings and take-offs increased 13.1% to 24,900 flights, corresponding with the growth in passenger traffic.

Changi Airport opened the year on a strong note with 4.24 million passengers passing through the airport in January 2012. Apart from December 2011, this is the highest number of passenger movements Changi has handled in a month, representing an increase of 12.1% over the same month last year. Air traffic movements grew in tandem, clocking 27,600 aircraft movements, 14.9% more than a year ago.

Singapore Changi Airport has closed 2011 on a positive note. During the year, Changi Airport achieved new records for passenger traffic and aircraft movements. At the same time, cargo movements recovered to 2008 pre-crisis levels. Changi continued to be highly regarded by travellers around the world with the airport receiving 23 accolades during the year.

Singapore Changi Airport handled 4.4 million passenger movements in June 2012, 9.7% more than a year before. There were 26,700 landings and take-offs at Changi during the month, a growth of 6.4% year-on-year.

The number of passenger movements at Singapore Changi Airport increased 4.5% on-year to 4.36 million in July 2012. Air traffic movements grew in tandem, with 27,100 landings and take-offs recorded at Changi during the month, or 4.6% more compared to a year ago.

Passenger traffic at Singapore Changi Airport grew 3.2% on-year in October 2013, with 4.41 million passengers passing through the airport. Aircraft landings and takeoffs rose by 6.7% to 29,500. In terms of airfreight movements, Changi Airport handled 157,400 tonnes of cargo, an increase of 1.8% compared to a year ago.

Singapore Changi Airport was honoured by the cargo industry at the Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Shanghai this evening. Changi Airport took home the Best Airport in Asia award for the 26th consecutive year and also picked up the Best Green Service Provider – Airport award for its focus on sustainable practices.

In May 2012, 4.09 million travellers passed through Singapore Changi Airport, an increase of 8.4% compared to a year ago. Flight movements at Changi increased 8.0%, corresponding with the growth in passenger movements.
