User and grid friendly EV charging

The dialogue around electric vehicles are at a pivotal moment as the demand for efficient charging solutions grows, posing potential challenges to electrical grid stability. With roots in Sweden, a nation known for sustainability, Zpark is positioned to offer insights into navigating these challenges.

Grid positive charging
In late 2023, Zpark launched the North of Sweden's fastest charging station in Öjebyn, offering fast charging alongside a battery storage system designed to meet the high energy demands of heavy electric vehicles.

The broader strategy for 2024 includes the deployment of advanced battery storage systems and fast-charging technology, such as that in Öjebyn. These systems, whether standalone or combined, not only improve charging efficiency but also reduce the impact on the electrical grid. It's crucial to note that intelligent software is the key; it optimizes the charging times to lessen the load on the grid and unlocks new revenue sources through frequency services.

-Our innovative and high-quality solutions are the result of close collaboration amongst our in-house hardware engineers, software engineers, and production experts, comments Brandyn Bixen, Head of Services at Zpark Energy Systems.

Simplifying payments
Efforts to enhance the user experience tied to electric vehicle charging should be influenced by global research and regulatory developments. EU regulations from April 2024 mandate credit and debit card payments for chargers over 50 kW, but a study from the University of California, Berkeley, expresses concern about the reliability of card payments, which they found to have a fifty percent success rate on the first payment attempt.

- Our focus is on making the initiation of a charging session fast and reliable. While some users might prefer card payments, others may opt for using our mobile app. Regardless of the method chosen, we ensure that both options offer a positive experience, Brandyn Bixen continues.

Looking forward
The commitment to integrate electric vehicle charging solutions with the existing electrical infrastructure is an integral effort to support the transition to electric vehicles. Advancements are crucial in providing EV drivers with sufficient charging infrastructure, without straining their finances or compromising other energy needs.
