TCS donates 100 laptops to ReDi School in Malmö

Stockholm, January 11: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) donates 100 of the company's laptops to the recently started ReDi School of Digital Integration in Malmö. ReDI School is a non-profit technology school for women with migrant and refugee backgrounds, offering free multi-level training in digital literacy.

ReDi School was founded in Germany in 2016, with locations in Denmark and another school in Sweden which opened in September this year. The courses offered run for twelve weeks and are divided into three different levels, from basic computer programming for beginners, to more advanced courses in disciplines such as cybersecurity. The school is funded entirely with financial support from authorities and from donations, while the courses are taught by volunteers.

100 laptops previously used by TCS consultants will now have a new lease of life in the form of school computers at ReDi School. Instead of the laptops being discarded, they have been refurbished and updated in preparation for use by the school's students in their courses.

"TCS’ computer donation is an extremely welcome addition to our school. The knowledge of our students varies greatly, and these computers are vital tools to give them the digital knowledge and skills they need for a better chance of establishing themselves in the Swedish labor market”, says Felix Abraham Unogwu at ReDI School in Malmö.

We are very happy that we have been able to help ReDi School in Malmö through the donation of the laptops”, says Avinash Limaye, Head of TCS in the Nordics. "The fact that these computers are helping women to enter the labor market and supporting more people in learning new digital skills is something that is completely in line with TCS's wider social commitments", he continues.

The donation of computers is part of TCS's concerted efforts to help refugees in Europe since the war in Ukraine began in February 2022. TCS has also donated 1,000,000 Euros to the humanitarian organizations Unicef, Feba and Care International in Europe. At the same time, the company's employees in the region have collectively donated 130,000 Euros, which has been matched by TCS for a total of 260,000 Euros.

TCS has also launched several mentorship programs in Europe with the aim of helping refugees enter the labor market. In June 2022, TCS joined the Sunflower Project, a Pan-European initiative launched by Tent Partnership for Refugees (Tent) to accelerate the economic inclusion of Ukrainian refugees in Europe by providing access to work. TCS will undertake activities in several areas, including mentoring, training and upskilling, to support displaced Ukrainians who are likely to remain in other European countries over the coming years.

TCS has already launched a mentorship program in the Netherlands and Germany, and it will be rolling out the program in Poland at the beginning of 2023. In Finland, TCS is working with another non-profit organization that trains refugees from Ukraine as part of a program that began in September 2022. The goal is for a few of these students to be hired by TCS.
