Increasing interest for Göteborg Book Fair

Göteborg Book Fair together with the Swedish Arts Council has once again provided support to publishers and literary agents from outside the Nordic region for attending the fair September 23 – 26.

From more than one hundred applicants, 25 publishers and agents have been awarded grants for visiting the fair. They represent Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, Ghana, Great Britain, Italy, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, Uganda, US and Zimbabwe. Many applicants are from France, due to the Nordic countries being guest of honour at Salon du Livre next spring.

The intention behind the cooperation between the Göteborg Book Fair and the Arts Council is to promote Swedish literature abroad and to increase the opportunity for Swedish writers to reach a greater reading public abroad.

The 26th Book Fair takes place from the 23rd-26th September at the Swedish Exhibition Centre in Göteborg. Approximately 100,000 visitors attend the Fair every year. Africa and African literature will be in focus 2010 and the complete seminar programme is available online at www.goteborg-bookfair.com. In addition to the seminar programme, over 2000 more Book Fair events will be confirmed in July and August.
