The Audience Award 2022 goes to The Banshees of Inisherin by Martin McDonagh

On November 20th, this year’s Stockholm International Film Festival 2022 held its last screenings and we can now happily announce that The Banshees of Inisherin by Martin McDonagh wins the prestigious Audience Award. The film is a salty dark comedy about a conflicted friendship between two lifelong friends played by Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.

During the grand award ceremony on November 18th, the Stockholm Film Festival's jury presented this year's winners in various categories – and now it's the audience's turn.

Every year, the Stockholm Film Festival lets the audience choose the winner of one of the most important prizes awarded during the festival; the Audience Award. Through a digital survey and in-person voting cards handed out in the cinemas, festival visitors have been able to vote for their favorite film among the 130 films shown at this year's festival between 9-20 November 2022.

Collin Farrell gives the performance of his life, praised in Venice where writer-director Martin McDonagh also picked up the screenplay prize.

Armed with liberating dark humour and tight dialogue in sing-song Irish, McDonagh combines his grip on both Irish life and heritage in a film that manages to be beautiful and poignant while also unabashedly entertaining.
