Stockholm International Film Festival reveals the jury for Nikon Short Film Award

The award was established in 2022 to encourage filmmakers across Europe to use their creativity and imagination to create the best possible short film, with a maximum length of 60 seconds. Last year, more than 200 submissions were received, and the winner was Noah Ragert with the short film The Final Countdown.

We now have the honor of presenting the jury for the Nikon Short Film Award 2024. Like last year, the jury chair is Swedish Hollywood director Daniel Espinosa, who is currently in the spotlight with the TV series The Helicopter Heist, which will have its world premiere during the festival. Espinosa, along with actresses Alva Bratt and Nina Zanjani, forms this year’s official jury.

“It is both an exciting and an honorable experience to once again lead the jury for the Nikon Short Film Award. We look forward to reviewing all the entries and seeing how today’s European filmmakers tackle the challenge of creating a 60-second film,” says Daniel Espinosa, Chair of the Nikon Short Film Awards jury.

The winning film will be screened at the Stockholm International Film Festival. The prize includes an exclusive Nikon camera and a lens of the winner’s choice. In addition, the winner will be awarded the world’s heaviest film prize – a nine-kilo hand-made glass sculpture by artist Markus Åkesson from Kosta Boda.

“We are delighted to be the official camera partner of the Stockholm Film Festival and once again present the Nikon Short Film Awards. Through this partnership and award, we express our strong commitment to the moving image and our admiration for young filmmakers who, through this prize, receive recognition for their talent,” says Julian Harvie, Marketing Director, Nikon Northern Europe.

“We are delighted, once again, to be this year’s Official Camera Partner for the Stockholm International Film Festival. This partnership not only reinforces our investment in the pinnacle of film industry talent, but also our allyship with young and emerging filmmakers through our sponsorship of the Nikon Short Film Award. We are proud to support this breadth of creativity and community by honouring their work through our partnership.” says Julian Harvie, Marketing Director, Nikon Northern Europe.

This year's theme for the Nikon Short Film Award is "The Creative Athlete!" Submissions are welcome until October 21 and can be sent to submission@stockholmfilmfestival.se.
