Stockholm Film Marathon – The race where worst time wins

One theatre. 24 hours of film. Are you staying up to win? That’s the question Stockholm International Film Festival is posing to 30 movie-hungry participants on November 5th.

As a warm-up for Stockholm Film Festival (9-20 November), an endurance competition for all dedicated film-buffs over 18, is being held from noon November 5th to noon November 6th at Cinema Zita in Stockholm.

For the dedicated contender who manages to watch the most hours of film in 24 hours without giving up or falling asleep, awaits a prize of five years free access to screenings at the festival; an opportunity to watch as much film as one can handle during the coming 5 years of the festival 2022-2026.

- Are you staying awake in a dark movie theatre for 24 hours? Can you handle lightning-speed bathroom breaks to not lose time? This is an event that requires preparation and training just like any other marathon. Only in this case, worst time wins, says Magnus Larsson, Head of Marketing at SIFF, of the thought behind the event.

Magnus explains that the idea was born from a word that’s often thrown around;

- Most people would probably say that they’ve had a "movie marathon" at some point. Now we want to see who can stand by their word and that’s why we’re arranging a real movie marathon competition with a line-up of incredible films.

The purpose of the event is to stir up excitement around quality films and draw the public back to the theaters.

In order to participate you need to be 18 years old and above, and you can apply on the Stockholm Film Festival website www.stockholmsfilmfestival.se or by clicking HERE.

The last day to sign up is Wednesday November 2nd at 23:59.

You don’t need to be a cinephile to participate. You just need to love film!

The films included in the marathon are:

· The Handmaiden (2016) by Park Chan-wook
· Happening (2021) by Audrey Diwan
· The Wolfpack (2015) by Crystal Moselle
· The Square (2017) by Ruben Östlund
· Parasite (2019) by Bong Joon-ho
· Speak No Evil (2022) by Christian Tafdrup
· Train to Busan (2016) by Yeon Sang-ho
· Crimes of the future (2022) written and directed by David Cronenberg
· Mulholland Drive (2001) by David Lynch
· Border (2018) by Ali Abbasi
· Palo Alto (2013) by Gia Coppola
· The City of Lost Children (1995) by Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet

The event is a collaboration between Stockholm International Film Festival and advertising agency KING. Watch the promotional film produced by FLX and directed by Bill Schumacher HERE.
