Play the game
For the past week I have had great fun planning for and decorating the first house produced by Add a Room, to be exhibited from this weekend in Ulrichsdal Slotspark in Stockholm.
As described in yesterday's post about add a Room, building blocks for adults, the game I played with add a room has not been about building with bricks, but about imagining the family that owns and uses the house.
In my fantasy, the house is owned by a couple, Anne and William, living on the outskirts of a European capital — she is a psychologist, he runs an IT company. The couple have two daughters who are studying abroad but come home for holidays with their boyfriends, and a few years from now they are expected to bring grandchildren as well.
Anne and William purchased an add a room for their garden. They use the house as a guest house, but Anne also uses it as a meditation room when there are no guests.
The idea is to connect an additional 15 m2 as the family grows.
I have decorated according to their preferences, minimalistic but cozy, a relaxed and changeable base which leaves room for guests and accommodates their behaviour. I have emphasized that the interior is personal and contains memories of family life — old books and games, a small souvenir, a few old plates from grandma's house —but at the same time it holds new beautiful and utilitarian objects from near and far.
