Does Scientology Believe in Reincarnation or Past Lives?
Reincarnation is a definite system but is not part of Scientology. It is a fact that unless one begins to handle aberrations built up in past lives, he doesn’t progress.
The common definition of reincarnation has been altered from its original meaning. The word has come to mean “to be born again in different life forms” whereas its actual definition is “to be born again into the flesh of another body.” Scientology ascribes to this latter, original definition of reincarnation.
Today in Scientology, many people have certainty that they have lived lives prior to their current one. These are referred to as past lives, not reincarnation. Scientologists do believe that you have lived before and that you will live again. The spirit, which is you, is immortal and you are not your body. You, as an individual, are an immortal spiritual being and simply put, you have lived before and will live again, lifetime after lifetime. In Scientology, these past existences are simply referred to as past lives, not reincarnation.
The manifestation that our hereafter is our next lifetime entirely alters the concepts of ethics and morality and the general concept of spiritual destiny. It is certain that an individual experiences, in his next lifetime, the civilization he had a part in creating today. With this knowledge comes an increase in responsibility to help make that tomorrow a good one to return to. This is also one of the reasons you find Scientologists taking an active part in social betterment activities in their communities and the world at large—they know they will return to it.
In Scientology one is given the tools to handle the upsets and aberrations from past lives that adversely affect one in present time, thus freeing one to live a much happier life.
