Arlandastad, Sweden | 18 February 2025 | The Motion Technology Company Schaeffler, with over 75 years of pioneering innovations in motion technology, is proud to support KTH Formula Student project in their ambitious endeavor to foster the engineers of tomorrow. With a commitment to making motion more efficient, intelligent, and sustainable, Schaeffler recognizes the project’s alignment with our core values of innovation and sustainability in the mobility ecosystem.
The KTH Formula Student team, a diverse group of 90 engineering students representing 21 countries and 17 different departments at KTH, is dedicated to designing, building, and racing a fully electric and autonomously driven race car. Their current season commenced in September 2024, aiming to compete with other university teams from June to August 2025.
Reflecting on past achievements, the team ranked among the top 80 teams invited to the prestigious competitions Formula Student Germany and Formula Student Austria in the Summer of 2024. Although they excelled in areas like the business plan presentation, where the team managed to achieve a top 10 placement at the Formula Student Germany competition, limited resources highlighted the need for improved car reliability. To address this, the team started the manufacturing process four months earlier this year and has actively been seeking high-quality partnerships for components. Additionally, the team Schaeffler supports, through expert consultation and high-performance bearing solutions, aims to significantly enhance the car’s track reliability. This involves providing bearings for six gearboxes and additional needle bearings, alongside technical guidance in bearing selection and integration. As the new gearboxes are planned to be utilized on the team’s next generation race car which will be revealed in May 2026, today marks the kickoff for a multi-year collaboration between Schaeffler and KTH Formula Student.
"Partnering with KTH Formula Student team allows us to embody our commitment to advancing sustainable, intelligent motion solutions while supporting the education and career development of future engineers," says Dr. Dan Wedberg, Manager Schaeffler Technology Center. "Alongside providing our high-quality bearing solutions, we are dedicated to offering technical expertise and guidance to these aspiring engineers. Sharing common values makes this partnership a perfect match."
Organized into six specialized subgroups, the team focuses on Aerodynamics, Mechanical Design, Powertrain, Driverless Technology, Vehicle Dynamics, and Business and Marketing.
KTH Formula student is not only about pushing the boundaries of electric mobility and training the engineering workforce for tomorrow. The project also emphasizes equality and diversity, actively challenging industry norms by fostering a team culture that values inclusiveness in a traditionally male-dominated field. At Schaeffler, we share these same values, believing that diverse perspectives drive innovation and strengthen our community, as we work together towards a more inclusive future.
