POSSIO ANNOUNCE SVEA GSM CONNECTOR II TO HELP COMPLETE FIXED-TO-MOBILE-SUBSTITUTION PROJECTS

Turin, Italy, October 15 2009: The Swedish wireless innovator Possio today announce SVEA GSM Connector II. This new GSM Connector is significantly more robust and flexible than its predecessor, it comes with unique support for national networks and it's priced more aggressively. "With SVEA II we have a rock solid product in the rapidly growing market forfixed-to-mobile-substitution", says Mr Ralf Wittig, head of Products at Possio. "Three years and numerous installations after we released SVEA in May 2006, we are as knowledgable as anyone can be in the difficult and fragmented market of narrow band data over GSM", continues Mr Wittig.

Since wireless alternatives to fixed communication are cheaper to deploy and more flexible to use, fixed wireless solutions will be desired by people and organizations in all relevant situations. The transition from fixed telephony to mobile is monumental and quite easy to understand and manage. But the fixed telephone networks are also used for a wide range of narrow band data applications with different kinds of modems and these applications are often complicated to move to a GSM network. The most common application is fax which is still used across the world, but there are others like elevator systems, postage systems, alarms, surveillance systems, door opening systems, vending machines and thousands of computer applications updated via modem.

The mobile industry and it's big vendors are focusing on generic mobile terminals through broad retail distribution since that is where the big volumes are. Mobile operators try to make consumers and organizations move as much traffic as possible to the mobile networks, and in the end of the day, replace the fixed subscriptions with mobile ones. A lot of people and organizations are in the process or have already moved and many of them have experienced that the narrow band data applications are difficult to move.

Possio invented the mobile fax over 10 years ago and has ever since been working on narrow band data applications over GSM. Since the move from fixed networks to cellular in offices started early in Sweden - Spring Mobil is a mobile operator devoted to building GSM networks in enterprises since 2004 - Possio identified and started to solve problems with narrow band data applications in offices without a fixed connection very early.

"When moving circuit switchednarrow band data applicationsfrom fixed to the mobile network we use the CSD (Circuit Switched Data) protocols in GSM", says Mr Wittig."Telecom vendors and mobile operators want to move data traffic from GSM to their 3G networks but it is easy to forget that the CSD protocols are not supported in 3G", continues Mr Wittig.

"Our partners around the world have practiced fixed to mobile substitution together with Possio and SVEA for years", said Per Östlund, VP Sales at Possio. "To launch a robust terminal like SVEA II as fixed-to-mobile-substitutionhappens everywhere and when Ericsson and others have discontinued their CSD products and shifted their focus to 3G, is what I call perfect timing", concludes Mr Östlund.

First customer shipments of Possio SVEA GSM Connector II is scheduled for November 20 2009 and Possio estimates a retail price below 400€ excluding VAT and SIM card.
