OpenArt opens the application for artists for the biennial 2026


The international biennial for contemporary art, OpenArt, takes place in Örebro's public space. In January, applications open for the tenth edition, which will take place in the summer of 2026. Professional artists from all over the world are welcome to submit their contributions between January 2-22, 2025.

Ukrainian artist Viktoriia Tofan wants to explore safe places: Artist residency during OPENART 2024

The artist Viktoriia Tofan participates in this year's edition of OpenArt through a 30-day artist residency. In the residency named Safe Place, the public space and safe places are examined through art.

With about six weeks left until the opening of the biennial, the full list of the participating artists for 2019 is now being unveiled. This year’s exhibition will feature 60 artists, representing 19 different nationalities, who will together exhibit over 80 artworks in Örebro’s city centre.

The team behind OpenArt likes to be a little secretive. We can hardly contain ourselves now – but we hope we have been able to keep everyone else in suspense… So here it is: The OpenART opening will be held on 18 June at 1:00 pm in the middle of Olaigatan. Outside Örebro Art Gallery, opposite the Castle by Henry Allard Park, we are going to start things off with a major happening.

This summer, Orebro will once again be transformed into art’s urban playground. OpenART, Sweden’s largest biennial for contemporary art in public space, celebrates its sixth exhibition this year. Once again, the city centre will open up for a public encounter with art, long awaited by many. For three months, the urban space will become a forum for exciting creativity and magical experiences.

​I sommar förvandlas Örebro åter till konstens urbana tummelplats. Open Art, Sveriges största biennal för samtidskonst i det offentliga rummet, öppnar för sjätte gången. Det blir ett, av många efterlängtat, publikt möte med konst i citykärnan. Stadsrummet laddas under tre månader med spännande kreativitet, magiska upplevelser och hisnande tankespår.

Örebro kommun – vi drivs av att skapa en enklare vardag för dem vi finns till för och vi jobbar långsiktigt och hållbart för att vara en attraktiv region för människor och företag. Som Sveriges sjunde största kommun har vi cirka 160.000 invånare och 165 olika nationaliteter. Örebro har länge satsat på tillväxt, med hög inflyttning och hög byggtakt i kombination med en bra arbetsmarknad. Här finns bland mycket annat bra kommunikationer, nära till naturen, ett slott, ett universitet och ett universitetssjukhus.
