Competent speakers at Euro Mine Expo 2012

The list of speakers at Euro Mine Expo 2012 is filled with interesting people who will be speaking under the fair’s main themes: Mining in the Barents Region, Good governance and corporate responsibility and Smarter, deeper, better mining.

The world is coming to the fair. Not least the conference programme is clear proof of this.

Heading the list of speakers are Anthony Hodge from ICMM and Jan Moström from Boliden, both of them keynote speakers.

Over the three days of the fair, they will be followed by a succession of interesting speakers on the fair’s main themes. One of them is ’Smarter, Deeper, Better mining’ about working smarter, drilling deeper and raising the quality of the mining. It is a highly topical subject that combines profitability and sustainability. A sustainability mindset means that the mining industry needs to be open not only to other ways of working and to innovations but also to new technology, which not least Horst Hejny at MIRO (Mineral Industry Research Organisation) will be speaking under the heading of ’Innovative Technologies and Concepts for the Intelligent Deep Mine of the Future - the EU Project I ² Mine’.

Johan Hedlin from Rock Tech Centre will be speaking on smart mining at a seminar entitled ’Smart Mine of the Future’. Green Mining will also be featured. Harry Sandström from Spinverse Oy will explain the background and development of the 'Green Mining Program', which focuses on two themes. One is new mineral deposits and the other is invisible, intelligent mining where material and energy efficiency in mineral extraction and minimising environmental impact throughout the chain are the central aspects. A further goal is to create new, green routines and ways of working for the mining industry worldwide.

Henryk Karas, Corporate Adviser at one of the world’s leading companies in copper mining, KGHM in Poland, will be here to speak about safe, efficient deep mining of copper ore.

Under the theme ’Good governance and corporate responsibility’, Richard Evans from SRK Consulting will describe how mines are built in partnership with neighbours and authorities. Jonas Lundström on the other hand will be speaking more about the mining project in Pajala, perhaps the biggest new deposit in Europe for decades, where cooperation with authorities has been important for the success of the project.

Under the fair’s theme ’Mining in the Barents Region’, Morten Often from Store Norske Spitsbergen Grubekompani, among others, will be speaking on coal and gold mining in an arctic climate. Fredric Bratt from Nickel Mountain Resources will describe Rönnbäcken’s project to extract nickel and magnetite from iron ore.

Russia will have a delegation at Euro Mine Expo. Their delegation includes Nikolay Philippov, Director State Company Mineral, who will speak on mining in the north-west of the country under the heading of ’General mining conditions in NW Russia’.
