Men’s Fashion. An Untold Story
Men’s Fashion. An Untold Story

Nyhet -

Coming this autum! The story of the men's fashion is told in a new colorful anthology.

“This book is an important publication for us,” says Susanne Hamilton, Publishing Director at Bokförlaget Langenskiöld. “Men's fashion is too rarely discussed and research into its history extremely limited compared to the knowledge that exists about women’s fashion. There is also a shortage of male garments in fashion museum collections. With this book, we aim to bring new information and knowledge to an initiated, culturally interested readership and tell the story of men’s fashion through the ages.”

The idea for the project comes from Ingrid Giertz-Mårtenson, who is also the book’s editor-in-chief with many years of experience in both Swedish and international fashion. Her long-standing work on increasing the status of fashion as a form of cultural expression has, for instance, led to the introduction of a Fashion Studies programme at Stockholm University: “Fashion has been discussed, questioned, criticised and admired for centuries, often without the historical knowledge of how or why it takes the form it does. This applies above all to menswear, since fashion has often been associated primarily with women’s fashion. In historical terms, fashion from the 18th century onwards has, both from a cultural and social perspective, been associated more with femininity than masculinity,” says Ingrid Giertz-Mårtenson.

Men’s Fashion. An Untold Story is an authoritative work on a subject that has been neglected for far too long. Richly illustrated and with both informed and personal accounts written by Swedish and international experts, this book gives men’s attire the attention it deserves, shedding light on its history from the 16th century until the present day,” says Creative Advisor Tom Hedqvist.

The book is lavishly illustrated and designed by the internationally renowned Swedish Art Director Johan Svensson. The cover has been designed by the artist and fashion illustrator Mats Gustafson.

The authors are: Christopher Breward, Elizabeth Wilson, Claire Wilcox, Peter McNeil, Patricia Mears, Bradley Quinn, Lena Rangström, Carolina Brown-Ahlund, Johan Cederlund, Mikael Mogren, Göran Söderström, Daniel Björk, Johan Hakelius, Alexander Husebye, Susanne Ljung and Jonas Olsson.

This book is published with the support of the Erling-Persson Foundation.
