imMaterialities

A multi-venue exhibition opening at Weld, Magnethuset and Spökparken, 3–6 June 2021, organized by the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm.

The exhibition imMaterialities showcases nine artistic approaches to matter, developed during the two-year post-master course 'Materialities–Coordinates: Mapping as Translation' at the Royal Institute of Art.

At the heart of this exhibition project lies the concept of the immaterial, the quality of not being physical. Referring to immateriality, sometimes it is thought of as connected to intellectual property, laws that shed light upon the intangible creations of the human intellect. Thus it refers to entities that do not exist in the realm of physical matter, such as copyrights, patents and trademarks. In another way of applying the term, we refer with immateriality to the virtual or augmented reality one experiences in VR and AR, in cloud storage or virtual societies. Yet another manner of relating to immateriality tackles the field of tension between the substantial, the tangible and the invisible, or mentally transcendent states.

The exhibition materializes simultaneously in three locations. At Weld, works by Adrian Espinos, Anna Linderstam, Ebba Bohlin, Johan Thurfjell, Martina Hoogland Ivanow, Ninna Berger and Rickard Eklund will be displayed. In Magnethuset at Observatorielunden, works by Martina Hoogland Ivanow and Johan Thurfjell will be showcased. In Spökparken, Camilla Reyman and Åsa Cederqvist will show their works.
