Workshop in KSLA, 15 January: Forests for Agenda 2030 in Ethiopia, Chile and Sweden

Forests for Agenda 2030 in Ethiopia, Chile and Sweden: Can evidence turn SDG conflicts to synergies?

The synergies and conflicts at the intersection of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with respect to climate, water, energy and biodiversity will be used to explore how Environmental Monitoring and Assessment (EMA) can more fully support Agenda 2030.

Work on this during the past year in three regional settings: Sweden, Ethiopia and Chile will be reported at the workshop. Specific questions are how EMA currently supports governance, and the possibilities for developing EMA to contribute more to governance by working with all three dimensions of the sustainable development goals: environment, economy and society.

This workshop will explore the potential of EMA to navigate the nexus of SDG issues surrounding forests as a source of intensified biomass production in future bioeconomies.

Time: Wednesday, 15 January 2020, from 9.30 am until 3 pm

Ny skrift: Skogliga begrepp och definitioner – KSLAT nr 7-2019

För att kunna föra meningsfulla samtal om skogens nyttjande och hållbara förvaltning är det viktigt att parterna lägger samma betydelse i olika begrepp. Definitioner ändrar innebörder i tid och rum, vilket understryker betydelsen av att regelbundet hitta ett gemensamt språk. Seminar 15 May: Will new plant breeding techniques have a future in the EU?

EU Court of Justice has decided that if a plant breeder has used a gene scissor like CRISPR/Cas9, the resulting plant shall be regulated as a GMO. It is now doubtful if Crispr-technology will benefit European farmers. What will the consequences of this decision be for research, plant breeding and agriculture in Europe? Workshop 5/3: Skogsskadegörarnas konsekvenser

Workshopen ska ge en samlad bild av de mest betydande orsakerna till skador på Sveriges skogar, med utgångspunkt från aktuella och omfattande angrepp av insekter på granskog i söder och svampangrepp i norr. Den är starten för KSLA:s Kommitté för skador på skog, med uppdrag att medvetandegöra betydelsen av skogsskador, höja kompetensen samt belysa skogsskadornas koppling till klimatförändringen.

Seminar 25 March: What is going on in Latin America?

In 2019, a free trade agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur states (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) was reached. Almost 2,000 Swedish companies are currently exporting to Mercosur, more than 260 million inhabitants, to which the EU exports over EUR 45 billion in goods and EUR 23 billion in services. Over 855,000 jobs in the EU are due to exports only to Brazil.
