Jessica Bäckman nominated as Citizen of the year in Boden 2020
On February 22nd, the Näringslivsgalan (a business gala) will be held in Boden with the purpose of honouring the city's empowerment. Several awards will be announced, including Citizen of the year in Boden, where racing driver Jessica Bäckman is among the nominees.
– 2019 is a year I will never forget and to be able to celebrate my successes with this nomination feels great, Jessica says.
Every year a business gala called “Näringslivsgalan” is held in Boden and this year the festivities take place on February 22nd. The main purpose of the gala is to promote and pay tribute to the city's empowerment and initiatives, not least through a series of prestigious awards. Behind the initiative is the Entrepreneurs of Boden in collaboration with the municipality of Boden, and one of the evening's award categories is the Citizen of the year in Boden. Among the nominees are talents such as skier Kristoffer Jakobsen, hockey player Oskar Sundqvist – and racing driver Jessica Bäckman. When Jessica received the message, it was with surprise but great honour.
– At first, I was shocked but at the same time very happy. I see the nomination as a huge honour, not least considering those who keep me company in the category. 2019 is a year I will never forget and to be able to celebrate my successes with this nomination feels great, Jessica says.
True winning mentality
And Jessica’s last year was, to say the least, very exciting. Not only as she joined the successful Italian team Target Competition (which ended the year as team champions!); Jessica was selected to represent Sweden in the Olympics of motorsport, FIA Motorsport Games, in Rome - and she also became the first woman of all time to finish on the podium in TCR Europe. Last fall, Jessica received another award “Winning Mentality of the year in Boden”, honouring her impressive drive. And as the citizens of Boden have chosen to once again nominate Jessica, the motivation now reads:
She is the racing driver who, with her impressive achievements, has reached the highest elite in the racing sport. This year she also became historical as the first woman of all time to reach the podium in the prestigious championship TCR Europe. A true role model and inspiration for other Boden citizens.
The award ceremony will take place at the Näringslivsgalan in Boden on February 22nd.

Racingsyskonen Andreas och Jessica Bäckman inledde sina respektive racingkarriärer som blott 9 och 7 år gamla. De har genom åren tävlat i stora förarmästerskap som STCC, Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, och den brittiska motsvarigheten TCR UK, med fantastiska framgångar som resultat. Under 2019 tävlar syskonen i prestigefyllda TCR Europe tillsammans med det flerfaldigt prisbelönta, italienska teamet Target Competition. Syskonens tävlingsbilar är varsin Hyundai i30 N TCR.
The racing siblings Andreas and Jessica Bäckman started their racing careers as 9 and 7 years old. They have during the years been competing in big championships like STCC, Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, and the British counterpart TCR UK, with fantastic success as results. During 2019 the sibilings are competing in the prestigious TCR Europe together with the multiple award winning Italian team Target Competition. The siblings racecars are Hyundai i30 N TCR.
