MEAP balloon has landed
PRESSINFORMATION
from the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF)
Last night, at around 2008-07-03 01:10:00 UTC (03:10 Swedish local time) the MEAP/P-BACE balloon platform landed by parachute in Canada at 67.17N 105.15W on a dry patch of land.
It was an extremely successful mission for the P-BACE instrument, both from a technical and a management point of view, thanks to all those involved from Esrange Space Center, Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility, IRF and Universität Bern.
Efforts for P-BACE are now focusing on retrieval of the solid state data disks. More than 4500 mass spectra were recorded during the 116 hour-long flight.
