Wargön Innovation Installs Cutting-Edge Equipment in Collaboration with Desion

Wargön Innovation is pleased to announce the installation of state-of-the-art equipment developed by the German company Desion. This innovative technology, assessing garments with the help of five cameras and AI while falling through a tube is capable of determining 20 garment types with exceptional precision. This falling technique has been selected for its superior accuracy, yielding approximately 63% better results compared to conveyer belt detection.

The equipment, known as the Classifly inspection system, enables fully automated categorization and sorting. By detecting objects in free fall, the system achieves high detection performance at high speed.

The advantages of Desion's technology lie in its speed and accuracy, being able to identify 2-3 garments per second. While this technology has been effectively utilized in other industries, such as the laundry industry, it represents the first application of its kind in the textile evaluation of second-hand garments. The equipment at Wargön Innovation is unprecedented in the Nordic region and serves as a prototype for testing and developing efficient textile sorting and evaluation of second-hand garments.

"We are thrilled to integrate Desion's patented technology in our continuously strengthened R&D-facility," says Joel Arnoldsson, innovation leader at Wargön Innovation. "This technology serves as a pivotal step toward the long-term goal of achieving full automation in textile reuse sorting.”

The environmental benefits of Desion's technology are substantial. Automated sorting systems like Desion's can significantly lower the operational costs associated with textile recycling, support standardization and enable larger volumes of material to be processed with greater accuracy and speed. This contributes to a circular economy, where waste is transformed into valuable resources, reducing the environmental impact and conserving natural resources. The technology, made available at Wargön Innovation, is developed for entrepreneurs and companies transitioning to circular business models, supporting their efforts to adopt sustainable practices.

“We are very happy about the cooperation with Wargön Innovation, as it enables us to present our development to a broad specialist audience”, says Dirk Siegmund, CEO at Desion. “We appreciate the open exchange and the practical cooperation that successfully combines science and business. This partnership strengthens our innovative power and we look forward to further joint successes.”

About Wargön Innovation

Wargön Innovation accelerates the transition to a circular society. As a leading player in the development of a sustainable society, we work purposefully to transform today's linear production into resource-efficient, circular flows. In our innovation environment, textile material flows are made available for testing and development, advanced sorting technology, and expertise in the form of a skilled and experienced team that supports companies in the circular transition.

About Desion GmbH

Desion, founded in 2020 as a spin-off from Fraunhofer IGD and TU Darmstadt, is dedicated to advancing technology through research and innovation. Their mission is to automate monotonous work processes and improve their quality, with a strong focus on sustainability and ecology. By increasing the recycling rate through automated sorting processes, Desion aims to contribute significantly to the more frequent use of objects such as textiles.
