Join the International Baby Food Day on April 17

For the second year in a row, the International Baby Food Day will be held on April 17 as a free digital event. The focus is to shed light on a topic that receives far too little attention - nutrition and health in young children. Specifically, what types of food are we providing to our little ones and how does it affect their development?

Some of our highlighted speakers are:

  • Ann Fernholm, science journalist and author, will talk about children and sugar,
  • Frida Vennerød-Diesen, who holds a doctorate degree in child development and their sense of taste, shares important insights into how our relationship to taste and food starts very early in life and how to support this development,
  • Daniel Skaven Ruben, FoodTech expert, will share his thoughts about the future of the baby food industry,
  • Dr. Alexander & Dr. Ann Kristin S. Homdrum, chiropractors and the founders behind Natural Born Parenting, will discuss oral motor skills for babies, and
  • Stine Pedersen Svarthe, founder of Bare Bra Barnemat, gives advice on how to navigate the baby food jungle as a parent.

The International Baby Food Day was founded to facilitate a community discussion about the first 1 000 days of life. This time period, from womb until a child turns two, is often referred to as the “window of opportunity”. It is the most critical time period of a person’s life with regards to nutrition, as it sets the foundation for health for all years to come.

This event was initiated by GroGro, a Scandinavian food tech company. Malin Bruset, CEO of GroGro, was provoked by various unhealthy foods having their own day of the year to garner attention, though there was nothing to shine a light on the importance of nutritious food for children.

Malin explains that “all parents and caregivers want the best for their children and sometimes the lack of information makes it difficult or overwhelming to know what is best. So we wanted to bring several experts together to share their insights in a holistic approach to child development.”

It isn’t just parents and caregivers who should tune in however. The discussions are intended to extend to health professionals who work closely with young kids and their unique nutritional needs as they grow from infants to toddlers. Malin feels that “health professionals play a vital role in guiding food choices as children transition from milk or formula to new tastes and textures. Unfortunately, nutritional guidance is almost an afterthought in the educational curriculum for most health professionals. We want to help fill this gap and create a more modern, supportive and engaging dialog to support better food choices.”
