Arctic Challenge Exercise 23 - Luleå-kallax, sweden

Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark is hosting Arctic Challenge Exercise 23 (ACE23). ACE is an international air exercise and is being conducted between 29th of May and 9th of June. Approximately 120 aircraft and 2 700 personnel from 14 different nations is participating in ACE23, making it one of the largest air exercises in Europe this year.

The Nordic cooperation is the core of the execution of Arctic Challenge Exercise. With the framework, the purpose is to strengthen the participant’s national defense, explore common synergies and facilitate common solutions. The cooperation should lead to increased operational effect, enhanced quality, better resource allocation and cost-efficiency of each nations’ armed forces.

For ACE 23 Finland is the lead nation with 14 nations participating and the aim is to exercise and train units in the orchestration and conduct of air operations, striving to Flag level execution, to include execution of tactics and Command and Control procedures. ACE 23 is also an opportunity to train cooperation and interoperability between 4th and 5th generation fighters. This year, the exercise will also deepen the international cooperation with our partners in the air domain in the High North.

The exercise is being conducted from four different air bases in three countries:

  • Luleå Kallax Air Base, Sweden.
  • Örland Air Base, Norway.
  • Rovaniemi and Pirkkala, Finland.

Nations participating in ACE23:

  • Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Finland, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Norway, U.S.A and Canada. Nato is also participating with AWACS.

Norrbotten Wing of the Swedish Air Force will host units from following nations at Luleå Air Base:

  • Czech Republic, Denmark, Netherlands and the UK.

International media is invited to participate during the media event Tuesday noon on Luleå-Kallax Airbase May 30th (more specific info will be sent out later on)

  • Which media you represent and contact information to your employer

PLEASE NOTE!
International media (and non-Swedish citizens) that want to visit a Swedish Armed Forces facility also need to fill in a “Request For Visit” document (attached on the media page on the website www.forsvarsmakten.se/ace23) and send that to SWAF-Diplo@mil.se

This procedure may take some time so be sure to apply as soon as possible.
