Flower uncovers new revenue streams for asset owners – becomes Balance Responsible Party (BRP) in Sweden

Flower’s application to become a Balance Responsible Party (BRP) in Sweden has been approved by the Swedish TSO Svenska Kraftnät. “This opens up completely new revenue streams for asset owners like wind and solar power producers”, says Emma Hellström, Chief Strategy Officer at Flower.

As an important step in the journey of becoming the pioneering force powering the energy system of tomorrow, Flower now joins big players like Vattenfall and Fortum in controlling supply and demand for the Swedish energy system. The announcement of becoming a BRP in Sweden comes in conjunction with Flower’s acquisition of a battery park in Sköldinge, a 4MW BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) from the energy tech company’s asset portfolio that is set to be operational soon.

“This is a milestone for Flower, and it comes after years of hard work proving ourselves as a force to be reckoned with in the energy industry. Now we get the opportunity to fully unlock the potential of our assets, and promote our vision of a flexible energy market.

– Emma Hellström, Chief Strategy Officer

Being a BRP allows Flower to generate additional value for its partners. Solar and wind producers can for example lower their risk exposure and increase revenue by using Flower’s services to predict negative prices while participating in ancillary service markets. As a BRP, Flower also gains access to several different markets, including Nordpool’s day-ahead and intraday markets, which is a pivotal step in improving partner’s operational efficiencies.

“Being a BRP gives us control of the full trading value chain and a diversification on different markets, meaning we can ensure electricity production and consumption is always balanced. This also gives us great influence in handling imbalances on the energy market, which is where our cutting-edge software technology and wide expertise for predictions and trading come handy.”

– Jesper Sundin, Head of Market Intelligence

Flower - Energizing tomorrow

We enable the energy system of tomorrow by combining pioneering technology with flexible assets, allowing clean energy to power society

The energy system of tomorrow relies on a high share of renewable energy production, and with that comes a new set of uncertainties. Grid owners, producers and consumers are all affected by these uncertainties, and enabling that system relies on stability in grid frequency, prices and volume. Combining and solving these problems is what we call flexibility.
