Flic Hub SDK puts your logic on the Flic Hub

Press release -

Flic releases Hub SDK and Device Manager so anyone can make own Smart Button Solutions

Flic releases a Software Development Kit for the Flic Hub and a device management platform. Advanced users can now write their own code on the Flic Hub. At the same time, businesses can deploy and monitor large installations of Flic Hubs and Flic buttons remotely. The dual release marks the completion of all delivery promises in the successful Flic 2 Kickstarter campaign.

The Flic Hub is an optional gateway for Flic Smart Buttons. The Flic Hub determines what happens when someone pushes a Flic button. For example, it can toggle smart lights, run Apple HomeKit routines, or send an Amazon Alexa voice command without the need for the voice. Before today, users were limited to the pre-set list of functionalities available in the Flic Hub, and it was only configurable through a smartphone app.

Today Shortcut Labs, the company behind Flic, releases an SDK (Software Development Kit) that allows users to write their own logic onto the Flic Hub. This allows users to create custom integrations that were not possible before.

"The Hub SDK has been like a dream pet project for the developers here at Flic, so it feels great to put it out there finally. It turns every Flic hub into a powerful and configurable mini-computer with excellent wireless capabilities. Like a Raspberry Pi but without the hassle." says Oskar Öberg, CTO.

Also, Shortcut Labs releases a device management platform that works like an IoT platform for Flic products. The Flic Device Manager can take JavaScript modules created in the Flic Hub SDK and deploy them to many hubs. It can further monitor, implement changes, and report statistics on large-scale Flic setups.

One of Flic's large scale customers is PushAppy - a rapidly growing motivational platform for sales incentives. PushAppy is an early tester of the device management platform.

"The Flic Hub Device Manager has allowed us to scale our solution much faster than before. Deployment of our system into large clients such as McDonald's and BAUHAUS Sweden would be almost impossible without it." says Maxilimilan Müller, CEO of PushAppy.

Shortcut Labs promised the Hub SDK in the Flic 2 Kickstarter campaign, together with many other features such as Apple HomeKit SupportBLE HID and BLE MIDI. The release of the SDK marks the final delivery of everything that the company promised in the campaign.

The Flic Hub SDK is an entirely browser-based online IDE (Integrated Development Environment), and code is written in JavaScript. This means that the only requirement to get started is a Flic Hub on the same network and a browser. The SDK contains a powerful yet easy-to-use API with advanced tools for debugging, bulk scanning of Flic buttons, pre-configured WiFi credentials and much more. User implementations are packaged in portable modules.

The Flic Hub SDK is open and available for everyone with a Flic Hub. The Device Manager is available as a subscription by contacting Shortcut Labs.
