Ferroamp develops V2X with Polestar and CTEK

Ferroamp initiates a development project together with, among others, Polestar and CTEK, for the development of Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) based on Ferroamp's technology platform.

Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), or more generally Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X), enable parked cars to contribute their battery capacity for, for example, reduction of power peaks, reserve power in the event of a power failure, or electricity grid support services.

- So far, charging electric cars has been seen as a challenge that further risks increasing the power shortage in our large cities or locally in our properties. Smart charging and smart control systems can partly handle these challenges, but with the various applications that V2X allows, the electric car will instead be an important part of the solution. A fleet of electric vehicles can reduce properties' power needs, electric car owners can get an income by letting the car's battery deliver support services to the electricity grid, the homeowner can get backup power from the car in the event of a power outage, and many other exciting applications, says Björn Jernström, CTO at Ferroamp.

Ferroamp's expertise and patented technology are central to the project, which aims to establish two-way communication and create secure energy flows between vehicles, properties, local energy production, and the electricity grid.

In concrete terms, this means that Ferroamp's DC / DC charging solution is further developed into a compact bidirectional charger with a flexibility that supports a variety of applications and future business models for V2X. An important part is the integration with the EnergyHub system, which gives the property owner an overall picture and ownership of the property's total power needs, including all load, solar cells, stationary energy storage, and electric cars with V2X function.

- To run this development project together with a Swedish electric car manufacturer that is at the forefront of technology is both rewarding and relevant. We are also further developing the collaboration we have previously established with CTEK, Björn Jernström concludes.

The three-year development project also includes Gothenburg Energy and Chalmers for research of system impact, development of control algorithms, and business models linked to V2X. The project has a total budget of SEK 30 million and is financed by the Swedish Energy Agency and the participating companies Ferroamp, Polestar, CTEK, Göteborg Energi, and Chalmers .
