Doconomy promotes climate literacy by displaying the US’ CO₂e emissions in Times Square for Climate Week

  • Doconomy to introduce ‘The 2030 Forecast’ to New York, showing weekly carbon emissions generated in the US, in Times Square and other locations across the city
  • Doconomy to host Arrivals Day event in partnership with the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce in New York, with panellists including senior executives from Mastercard, Citi, Klarna, Amalgamated Bank, WWF, as well as the Assistant Secretary-General of the UNDP

STOCKHOLM [& NEW YORK] – 21 September 2022 – Doconomy, a world’s leading impact technology company, today announces a major program of events at Climate Week NYC 2022, taking place between 19-25 September.

Founded in Sweden in 2018, Doconomy empowers people and businesses to cut carbon emissions by helping them understand their environmental footprint using industry leading data and impact assessment technology.

The Company will launch ‘The 2030 Forecast’ in Times Square in Manhattan – a first of its kind climate literacy project that will give the public an estimate of weekly carbon emissions generated in the US, with minimal delay.

Using digital displays in multiple outdoor locations, the application will show a snapshot of the carbon emissions generated by the US energy, industry, road transportation and domestic aviation sectors and the reductions required by 2030 to limit global warming to 1.5C in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. These weekly estimates are based on satellite images and data analysis from Doconomy’s partner, Kayrros.

The 2030 Forecast is the first application to track and release US greenhouse gas emissions data for key sectors weekly – creating a platform to accelerate the shift towards a more sustainable world.

Johan Pihl, Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Doconomy, said: “Helping the public understand carbon emissions levels in real-time will build awareness and drive political and market change. In the US, this data has been hard to find until now but the 2030 Forecast makes it visible to all - democratizing access to accelerate climate action.”

In parallel, Doconomy will host an Arrivals Day event with the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce in New York. The event will include a series of panel discussions, with thought leaders from around the world participating in person and virtually, followed by a networking session. Discussions will explore how financial institutions can facilitate and manage consumer climate engagement, the role of the media in connection with climate action, and how purpose-led, early-stage ventures can centre their business models around taking climate action. Confirmed panellists include:

  • Ulrika Modéer, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP
  • Ellen Jackowski, Chief Sustainability Officer and EVP, Mastercard
  • Shulin Chang, Climate Strategy and Sustainability Lead, Klarna
  • Ivan Frishberg, SVP Chief Sustainability Officer, Amalgamated Bank
  • Lucy Hargreaves, Head of Public Affairs & Policy, Patch
  • Marty Spitzer, Director, Climate and Renewable Energy, WWF
  • Jelena Zec, Principal, Venture Investing, Citi Ventures

The event will take place on 19 September from 13:00 EST at the 900 Third Avenue building.

Commenting on the activities, Mathias Wikström said: “Doconomy works with some of the world’s leading financial institutions and environmental campaign groups to accelerate climate action. We are pleased to bring our network together to help identify new solutions that can help our partners deliver their climate targets and help their customers cut carbon emissions.”
