Drone Delivery Testing Begins near Stockholm

(STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, 15 February) - Today, Aerit, a sustainable drone delivery startup, began advanced testing of its autonomous drone delivery platform in the Stockholm area. The startup plans to pilot delivery services in several select communities across Sweden later this year.

The company’s development team traveled from its office in Stockholm to a nearby testing facility for a full week of trials. The goal of the week is to finalize collection of testing data for submission of a Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) based permit application, required by EU regulations, to begin delivery operations.

“At Aerit, safety is our top priority. The testing schedule this week is designed to verify our knowledge of the drone's performance characteristics and safety features in real world conditions before we begin operations later this year. We are excited for the week ahead and hope to build on the many lessons we have learned since our first fully autonomous flight in January.” said Alexander Perrien, Chief Executive Officer of Aerit.

Last mile delivery can make up to 40% of total supply chain cost for restaurants, grocery stores, and consumer product firms. Growth of e-commerce and online food delivery has accelerated the demand for these services and the consequent increase in emissions. Using battery powered drones can reduce emissions by up to 190g per km compared to ICE powered alternatives.
