Radonova Participates in Canada Conference – Presents Work on Real-Time Radon Measurement

Radonova's participation in international conferences continues. From August 27 to 28, José-Luis Gutiérrez Villanueva will be in Calgary to give a presentation on real-time radon testing using digital instruments.

The conference, titled "Radiation and Air Pollutant Disease (RAPID) Prevention and Early Detection," has an extensive program and is one of this year's most important events for international radon experts.

At the conference, Radonova will present their work with the SPIRIT radon instrument, which has been very well-received since its launch in 2022. SPIRIT creates new opportunities for collecting and analyzing large amounts of data with high precision radon measurements, both in residential and workplace settings. The work with SPIRIT also highlights the importance of calibrating radon instruments to ensure accurate measurements.

Significant Variations in Radon Levels Require High-Precision Measurement
"It is, of course, very gratifying that the instruments we develop and the studies we conduct are garnering international interest. The radon issue is global, making knowledge and idea exchange particularly important. This conference is a great opportunity to share knowledge with others while also learning about what is being done in other countries," says José-Luis Gutiérrez Villanueva.

"Radon measurement is the only way to accurately assess the risk of radon exposure. Although attempts have been made to use radon maps as a tool, they are not reliable at all. The significant variations in radon gas concentration make mapping unsuitable for determining the radon levels in a specific building. Radon levels can vary greatly from building to building, from room to room, and especially over time. Therefore, it is crucial to be able to measure radon in real-time with high precision. With SPIRIT, we demonstrate how instrument development has progressed, now combining advanced technology with user-friendliness," concludes José-Luis Gutiérrez Villanueva.

Brief Background on SPIRIT
Radonova has developed SPIRIT, a digital instrument for real-time radon measurement. The instrument was launched three years ago and has since been used in many different applications. SPIRIT uses LoRaWAN technology for data transmission, and users can easily visualize radon concentration over time, either on the Radonova portal or via a dedicated URL. Additionally, all information is available for download in Excel format. The available data includes not only radon but also other parameters such as humidity, temperature, air pressure, and more.

Since calibrations and verifications can be performed almost immediately, SPIRIT is very practical for use in research contexts. It is also very useful for determining the effectiveness of radon mitigation measures.
