Discover the river Havel! Europe's largest inland water sports area
The river Havel and its picturesque lakes form Europe's largest contiguous inland water sports area. Nestled amidst this vast expanse lies the charming city of Potsdam, making it a sought-after destination for boating enthusiasts. Taking to the water offers an enchanting perspective of the city's iconic landmarks, including remarkable palaces, such as Babelsberg Palace and Cecilienhof Country House, located directly on the banks of the river Havel.
Embark on an aquatic adventure
The Potsdam Havel offers the perfect conditions for boating holiday-goers to dock and linger at their leisure. There are plenty of harbours, marinas, water trail rest areas, and clubs with moorings to accommodate boats of all sizes. If you prefer tranquillity, you can anchor easily in secluded bays. Along the shoreline, you'll find a myriad of destinations to explore, from museums and castles to city tours and delightful culinary experiences in the baroque city centre. If you don't have your own boat but still want to explore Potsdam and its surroundings independently by water, you can easily rent one. There are rentals for SUP boards, canoes, rafts, leadercertificate-free boats or motor and sailing charter yachts.
Discover the "Blue Paradise"
The Havel lakes of Potsdam and Brandenburg are part of the sprawling "Blue Paradise," Europe's largest continuous water sports area, stretching between the rivers Elbe and Oder, the Baltic Sea, and the Spreewald. Spanning approximately 180 river kilometres, the course of the Havel boasts over 40 lakes, canals, and meandering Havel arms, offering endless opportunities for a boat holiday. Besides Potsdam, your journey can take you to historic cities such as Brandenburg an der Havel, the blossom city of Werder (Havel), the quaint fishing town of Ketzin, as well as the inviting communities of Schwielowsee and Groß Kreutz, where you can drop anchor and explore their unique charms.
