🌍 Inspiring days at #Almedalenveckan! 🌱 On the UNDP panels, we discussed the Summit of the Future and the Global Digital Pact.

Despite progress, the world is off track in meeting its #SDGs, facing inequalities, conflicts, and climate challenges. The Summit is a unique chance to renew trust and build global solidarity. Honored to speak alongside former UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson.

The Global Digital Compact aims for an open, free, and secure digital future. This is an important step towards digital inclusion as UN data (2023) shows digital divides are widening: from 1B online in 2002 to 5.3B now, but gaps remain. While 89% of Europeans are online, only 21% in low-income countries are connected. Wealth from digital innovations is highly unequal.

Thank you, Almedalen, for the opportunity to join these urgent conversations ! 🌍💡

We are facing a massive USD 4 trillion financing crisis to reach the sustainable development goals. 🌍 Governance systems are under extreme pressure, and the lack of financial integrity is undermining global development. Tackling these issues head-on is crucial for sustainable and inclusive growth. 🌱
In a picturesque setting on a hilltop surrounded by forests, we held the first of three high-level Finance, Integrity, and Governance (FIG) Policy Symposiums. This gathering included 20 member states, global civil society representatives, international organizations, and top researchers. Together, we are ensuring that financial integrity is at the core of financing for development. Stay tuned! 💡

🌍 Human Development Report 2023/24 🌐 @‌UNDP’s #HDR2024 reveals:

🔍 Uneven development progress leaves the poorest behind, intensifying global inequality.

🌐 Emerging ‘democracy paradox’: 9 in 10 support democracy, yet 1/2 back leaders potentially undermining it.

🤷‍♂️ People feel a lack of control over their lives, with over two-thirds believing they have little influence on government decisions. Clear gaps in people’s agency.

Let’s unite to break the gridlock! 💪
