THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP IN THE CRIPTIC PROJECT 

The main aim of the Akvaplan-niva led CRIPTIC project (Cleaning Riverine Plastic from a Transboundary Inflow to the Caspian) is to apply digital methods and community engagement to reduce plastic waste in the Caspian Sea. The project is funded by the Norwegian Retailers’ Environmental Fund (Handelens Miljøfond).

The first CRIPTIC workshop on 'Litter cleaning registration and sampling methodology' was held as a webinar on the 25th of June 2021. The webinar was led by the CRIPTIC project leader from Norway and co-leader from Azerbaijan: Akvaplan-niva (Peygham Ghaffari) and Azerbaijan Geographical Society (Elnur Safarov). The CRIPTIC team completed the second field study and clean-up operation at the Caspian Sea coast
A team of more than 50 volunteers – university students and lecturers, early-career scientists and experienced researchers, engineers from the private sector, and local community representatives- participated in the fieldwork and clean-up on the 6th of November 2022.

Fra forskning til verdiskaping

Akvaplan-niva AS er et forsknings- og rådgivingsselskap i NIVA-gruppen (Norsk institutt for vannforskning). Vi tilbyr rådgivningstjenester og FoU-bistand innen akvakultur for alle vann-tilknyttede miljøutfordringer. Forskning er en meget viktig del av vår virksomhet og våre forskere har kompetanse innen biologi, økologi, økotoksikologi, kjemi og oseanografi. Våre viktigste kundegrupper er havbruksnæringen, energi-sektoren og ulike forskningsfond. Akvaplan-niva er ISO 9001 sertifisert og har egne kjemiske og biologiske laboratorier som er akkreditert i henhold til anerkjente standarder.
