NGK Joins the “RE100” Global Initiative ~ Aiming for 100% Of Electricity Consumption to Come from Renewable Energy Sources by 2040

NGK INSULATORS, LTD. (hereinafter "NGK") joined “RE100,” a global initiative that aims for 100% of electricity used in business operations to come from renewable energy sources.

The NGK Group identified carbon neutrality as one of the social issues to be addressed in its mid- to long-term vision “NGK Group Vision: Road to 2050” formulated in April 2021. In the “NGK Group Environmental Vision” formulated at the same time, the Group set the target of net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 and has been working on expanding its use of renewable energy as a strategy to achieve this target. We will take joining RE100 as an opportunity to accelerate our efforts to install photovoltaic power generation systems and procure renewable energy within the Group by making use of our NAS battery, a large-capacity storage battery, and ZNB, a zinc rechargeable battery, with the aim of switching over to 100% renewable energy for electricity used in our business operations by Fiscal 2040.

Upon NGK’s joining, Sam Kimmins, Director of Energy at Climate Group said: “We are delighted that NGK Insulators has joined RE100, the global initiative led by the Climate Group in partnership with CDP. By committing to 100% renewable electricity by 2040, NGK is taking leadership in climate action. It joins over 70 Japanese RE100 companies who collectively, send a powerful message that renewable electricity makes good business sense.”

RE100 (100% Renewable Electricity) is a global initiative made up of companies that aim to use renewable energy to power all of their operations. It is led by the Climate Group, an international environmental non-governmental organization (NGO), in partnership with CDP, an NGO that runs a global environmental information disclosure system, and has over 387 member companies worldwide including NGK and 75 in Japan.
