Press release -

NGK Insulators exhibits at CES2022, the world's largest consumer electronics trade show, which will be held from January 5 to 8, 2022.

This year's CES will be held both on-site and virtually. NGK will showcase the EnerCera battery, an ideal energy storage device for IoT devices that contributes to the realization of Society5.0 , a concept which is defined as "a human-centered society that balances economic advancement with the resolution of social problems by a system that highly integrates cyberspace and physical space" .

CES2022

The EnerCera battery is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that combines the advantages of capacitors and conventional lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, featuring ultra-small, thin, high capacity, high output power, high heat resistance, and long life. In combination with wireless power transfer (WPT) technologies that can power devices wirelessly and energy harvesting technologies (*), it efficiently stores a small amount of energy and enables to drive various IoT devices. In addition, we will solve the issues regarding the cost and the waste generation caused by the battery replacement, which was a problem with conventional disposable batteries.

At NGK’s booth, we will introduce latest examples of collaborations with various partners through videos. You can experience the use scene.

*The technologies which convert energies in the environment, such as light, vibration, and temperature difference, into electricity.

Application example using EnerCera battery

Power solutions in combination with WPT technology

Power solutions in combination with WPT technology

It enables an IoT sensors with free placement without wiring. We will introduce examples of application such as logistics tags that can be attached to cargo which can constantly measure temperature, humidity, and impact shock during transportation, and failure detection devices that can be easily retrofit to production equipment to constantly measure vibrations. It is possible to build a continuous monitoring system in the logistics field and inside the factory.

Power solutions in combination with energy harvesting technology

Power solutions in combination with energy harvesting technology

By storing weak and miniscule energy in the surrounding environment into EnerCera, it is possible to build a power supply system that can be used effectively. As application examples, we will introduce sensor devices and wearable devices that can be used in a wide range of applications such as agriculture, logistics, and equipment maintenance. For example, by combining photovoltaic cells and EnerCera with agricultural sensors that constantly measure soil conditions, maintenance-free agricultural sensing device can be realized to manage vast farm fields.

Hybrid Power Solutions for WPT and Energy Harvesting Technologies

Hybrid Power Solutions for WPT and Energy Harvesting Technologies

By using WPT and solar cells together, it is possible to realize a power supply system that does not require the trouble of the battery replacement, which was a problem with conventional disposable batteries. With its compact, thin, and highly flexible design, IoT devices contribute to the realization of a smart home that automatically controls home appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, and air conditioners via wireless communication.

Various evaluation boards

We introduce an evaluation board that combines power ICs, photovoltaic cells, etc. that can easily evaluate EnerCera.
