Lithium-ion rechargeable battery EnerCera Wins Sensors Converge 2024 Best of Sensors Awards Power Category
NGK INSULATORS, LTD. (hereinafter referred to as the “Company”) won the Sensors Converge 2024 Best of Sensors Awards Power category for the EnerCera Pouch ET series ultra-thin, lightweight rechargeable battery.
Sensors Converge is an exhibition showcasing cutting-edge innovative technologies in the sensor industry. The Best of Sensors Awards award the most outstanding products and technologies in the sensor industry, with this year's evaluation and selection conducted by judges including developers from U.S. companies Apple Inc. and Qualcomm Incorporated.
EnerCera is an ultra-thin, lightweight, lithium-ion rechargeable battery. A semi-solid-state battery developed using the Company’s original crystal oriented ceramic plate as electrodes, EnerCera achieves features that were difficult to incorporate together in existing lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, such as high capacity, high output, high heat resistance, and long lifetime. The award-winning EnerCera Pouch ET Series products have a wider operating temperature range, from -40°C to 70°C, compared to the conventional EnerCera Pouch. Features include being less susceptible to performance degradation from continuous full charge or over discharge (extremely low voltage state). When combined with solar cells, EnerCera enables long-term use of self-sustaining IoT devices both indoors and outdoors without the need to replace the battery. EnerCera is currently being evaluated as a sample by over 500 companies worldwide for application in thin, lightweight and high-capacity IoT devices, such as location trackers, wearable devices, temperature sensor tags and various sensor devices.
NGK will use this award as a springboard to contribute to the realization of an IoT society by providing unique ceramic products such as EnerCera.
