Mynewsnight: Back To The Future Of Comms [In Pictures]

Bringing together over 70 PR professionals and industry leaders, Mynewsnight: Back To The Future Of Comms got underway on 30th April, and what a night it was!

Focusing on the evolution of the industry, Stuart Bruce, Jon Morter and our panel of experts debated on whether storytelling is set to replace tradition PR methods and how brands could be getting social media all wrong!

Here’s how the night panned out [in pictures and tweets]

First up was PR advisor and strategist Stuart Bruce to give his frank and funny views on the stark differences between the way in which PR and advertising companies source and relay content.

Stuart went on to reveal that "communicators are terrified by metrics" but there is a need to understand and embrace them, once you've establish which measurements are most important to your brand.

And then we had the utterly hilarious Jon Morter – the man behind the “Get Rage Against The Machine To Christmas Number One” campaign.

Jon highlighted a handful of his most hated posts from big-name brands, including “Keep Calm” slogans, inappropriate advertising and awkward automated responses!

Oh and not forgetting one of our favourite (read: pet peeves) topics, PR and marketing jargon!

The panel - which included both Jon and Stuart, as well as Adam Cranfield (of Digital FWD), Emma Hart and Janaka Abeywardhana - rounded things up with a sparkly debate on all things PR and comms. The room was later joined by author and Chief Strategy Officer at CMI, Robert Rose (via Skype) who added his invaluable views to the discussion.

After a whole lot of learning and lively discussions, the event came to a close, and attendees and speakers were invited to a join Mynewsdesk-ers in a pizza, beer and wine reception - the perfect end to a fantastic, engaging night of PR and comms talk!
