Oceana rises again – see the new images of swedish amusement park Liseberg’s waterworld

Ten months after the tragic fire at Oceana, where one employee lost their life, work has reached a key milestone. The demolition work is now finished and, following a positive decision from Liseberg’s Board of Directors, work to complete a new waterworld – which is set to be finished in two years – can enter a new phase. For the first time, Liseberg can also release brand new images of Oceana, showing the attraction tower’s partially modified look and the new technology for the slides.

This week, the last load-bearing glulam beams have been removed from Oceana’s roof. The pool area is now fully exposed, but this also marks a key milestone: the demolition and clean-up work is finished. After a positive decision by Liseberg's board, granting Liseberg the mandate to enter into the necessary agreements for the full completion of Oceana, Oceana begins to rise once more.

While the basis for the work is rebuilding the water park according to the original designs, Liseberg is making a number of alterations to the building itself.

“Among other things, we have opted to invest in new technology for the slides, to make them more fire retardant. We are also using this as an opportunity to opt for a lighter colour for the attraction tower, to ensure it fits in better with the surrounding cityscape,” explains Liseberg’s CEO Andreas Andersen.

The aim is to be able to open in around two years. However, the project is complex by nature, and there are many different factors that could affect the schedule. As of a couple of weeks ago, the attraction tower has once again begun to take shape at the southern end of Oceana. In February 2025, work will begin to put the new glulam beams into place, followed by work in spring to install the water attractions in the swimming pool area. If all goes to plan, the project is expected to be fully weathertight by the end of the summer.

“Rounding off 2024 with such positive news is a great way to end the year. Oceana will be a key and highly-anticipated addition to Gothenburg’s already wide variety of experiences, strengthening the appeal of the region,” states Liseberg’s Chairman of the Board Kurt Eliasson.

Oceana is set to offer a fantastic water experience, unlike anything else in Scandinavia today. With a bathing area of almost 6,000 square metres indoors and 4,000 square metres outdoors, guests will be able to enjoy everything from quiet, lapping waves to thrilling rides on the coolest water attractions in northern Europe.
