Highest Average Age on a Roller Coaster Ride - Seniors Set World Record at amusement park Liseberg:
On Tuesday, September 3rd, a new world record was set at Liseberg for the highest average age on a roller coaster ride: 80.1 years!
“Achieving the world record was fantastic, but the most important thing was that we could demonstrate seniors’ right to have fun and experience excitement,” said Mårten Westlund, PR and Communications Manager at Liseberg.
The record-breaking ride took place on Tuesday morning on Valkyria, Europe’s longest Dive Coaster – a roller coaster with a vertical drop of 50 meters. The new world record was set with an impressive average age of 80.1 years!
A few weeks ago, Liseberg announced a search for adventurous seniors to attempt a world record for the highest average age on a roller coaster ride. The response was overwhelming – over two hundred seniors from across the country expressed interest in participating in the historic ride.
One of the eighteen lucky super seniors who participated in the record-breaking ride, reaching a top speed of 105 kilometers per hour, was 84-year-old Lars Cederberg from Falköping:
“It was a mix of fear and joy, an incredible experience. I’ve had so many joyful days in this amusement park, and it was great to give back a little by coming here and breaking a world record,” he said right after the ride.
Iréne Holmqvist, 76 years old from Mariestad, also took part in the world record ride on Valkyria:
“It was fantastic, I immediately wanted to go again, and I’ll have to come back with my grandchildren soon. It’s so fun to be a world record holder, but the best part was meeting all the new friends who rode with me on Valkyria!”
The previous record was set in Blackpool in 2003, where a roller coaster train at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the UK had an average age of 75.25 years.
Given the large number of applications, Liseberg also decided to allow more seniors to ride Valkyria while the opportunity was there:
“We received so many applications, so we thought, why not fill a couple more Valkyria trains with these enthusiastic and lively seniors just to keep the celebration going,” said Mårten Westlund.
