Experience the ultimate centennial celebration at Liseberg - Scandinavia's leading amusement Park offers more thrills and excitement than ever before

Anniversary celebrations with hotel opening, a roller coaster to the moon and new spectacular water world

In 2023, Gothenburg's Liseberg will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Scandinavia's largest amusement park, which as recently as 2022 was named the best amusement park in the Nordic countries (European Star Award, Kirmes Park & Revue), has spared no expense for this anniversary. On April 22, 2023, the summer season will begin with the opening of the Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel family hotel and the launch of the new Luna family roller coaster. In spring 2024, Oceana, one of Northern Europe's largest water worlds, opens its doors.

Most visited amusement park in Scandinavia in trendy and alternative Gothenburg

With around 3 million visitors per year, Liseberg is Sweden's most visited destination and one of the leading theme parks in Europe. The park is also increasingly becoming a favorite destination for British travelers, not least because of its perfect location in trendy Gothenburg on Sweden's west coast. Six times in a row, the country's second largest city with its breathtaking archipelago has already been named the greenest city in the world. It boasts 274 square meters of green space per inhabitant and 95% environmentally certified hotels. In addition to Liseberg's 100th birthday, Gothenburg is also celebrating its 400th anniversary this year. Officially, the celebrations should have taken place in 2021, but were postponed due to the pandemic. There will be festivals, concerts and art events throughout the summer.

Whether for a long weekend or a day trip, 2023 is the perfect time to visit. Especially for tourists from Great Britain, a trip to Gothenburg and Liseberg has become even more affordable in the past year: "We see that the share of British guests visiting us is growing steadily and today about 2% of our visitors come from this market. Due to the particularly strong British pound, a trip to Sweden in 2023 will also be unusually affordable," comments Andreas Andersen, CEO of Liseberg.

On the occasion of its anniversary, Liseberg has invested the equivalent of approximately GBP 195 million in the expansion of the park, including the Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel and the future largest water park in Scandinavia , Oceana.

"Our goal is to become one of the world's greatest amusement destinations - in all seasons. The SEK 2.5 billion (GBP 195 million) investment is intended to support the park's development into a year-round destination. With the unique Grand Curiosa experience hotel and the new Oceana water world, we expect a significant increase in international guests," says Andreas Andersen, CEO of Liseberg.

Liseberg Grand Curiosa: a magical hotel in the middle of the park

Liseberg Grand Curiosa is a hotel for the whole family. The interior was inspired by Agnes and Mr. Dvaler, who lived in Gothenburg in the 18th century: through her business contacts in the East India Company, Agnes explored the whole world. On her travels she collected curiosities, oddities and magical objects. Agnes had a gift for enchanting even the most skeptical listeners with her stories. At the hotel, guests can experience this magic for themselves, from a ride on dark, roaring seas to fairy-tale adventures in exotic lands. The hotel has 457 family rooms, a restaurant on the first floor, a bistro on the roof terrace overlooking the park and the whole city, a nostalgic carousel from 1923 and a slide connecting the second and third floors of the building. www.liseberg.com/liseberg-grand-curiosa-hotel/

Luna – to the moon and back

Last year, Liseberg opened the Luna Park section of the park. The roller coaster Luna, the last and largest attraction in this section, will celebrate its season premiere in 2023. Luna is a so-called Boomerang (roller coaster), where the train is pulled back and shoots along the 242-meter track at 68 km/h until it reaches the 33.5-meter-high top, the moon. After that, the train returns. The total ride time is about one minute. www.liseberg.com/rides-attractions/luna-premiere-2023/

Oceana, one of the largest water worlds in Northern Europe, opens in spring 2024

Like the Grand Curiosa, the Oceana water world was inspired by the history of Gothenburg and the East India Company. With a total area of 14,000 square meters, young and old alike can enjoy everything from quiet sandy beaches and a wave pool to fast-paced rides in 14 rides and four giant water slides. After its completion in spring 2024, up to 500,000 annual guests are expected. www.liseberg.com/about-liseberg/lisebergs-jubileumsprojekt/
