New Board of Directors for KommuneKredit

Press release -

New Board of Directors for KommuneKredit

Mayor of Ringsted Municipality, Henrik Hvidesten, takes over the chairmanship of KommuneKredit’s Board of Directors after former mayor of Herning, Lars Krarup. Together with the Board of Directors, he will help futureproof KommuneKredit’s financing of public investments in Danish local communities - including the green transition.

Today, KommuneKredit’s Board of Directors has held its inaugural meeting electing Henrik Hvidesten, Mayor of Ringsted Municipality, as Chairman and Thomas Lykke Pedersen, Mayor of Fredensborg Municipality, as Vice-Chairman.

The Board of Directors has established an audit committee consisting of Birgit Aagaard-Svendsen (Chairman), Susanne Kure and Henrik Hvidesten.

For 123 years, KommuneKredit has financed public investments in Danish communities on equal terms, regardless of size and location. The association does not have to make a profit or pay dividends and can therefore make the cheapest possible financing available to our members.

In connection with his election, Henrik Hvidesten says:

”KommuneKredit plays an important role in growth and development throughout Denmark, and we finance the green transition and sustainable solutions in Danish local communities. The Board of Directors and I look forward to continuing the work to futureproof KommuneKredit, so that citizens may continue to receive as much growth, development and sustainable transition as possible for their taxes.”

KommuneKredit’s new Board of Directors is elected for the period from 1 June 2022 to 31 May 2026. During the period, KommuneKredit’s Board of Directors will consist of:

▪ Mayor Henrik Hvidesten, Municipality of Ringsted, Chairman

▪ Mayor Thomas Lykke Pedersen, Municipality of Fredensborg, Vice-Chairman

▪ Birgit Aagaard-Svendsen, Independent Member, Chairman of the Audit Committee*

▪ Mayor Michael Fenger, Municipality of Gentofte

▪ Regional Council Member Martin Geertsen, Capital Region of Denmark

▪ Mayor Mikael Klitgaard, Municipality of Brønderslev

▪ Susanne Kure, Independent Member

▪ Mayor Erik Lauritzen, Municipality of Sønderborg

▪ Regional Council Member Tormod Olsen, Capital Region of Denmark

▪ Mayor Peter Sørensen, Municipality of Horsens

* The election period for one of the independent members is staggered by 2 years relative to the rest of the Board of Directors. Birgit Aagaard-Svendsen has thus been elected for the period 1 June 2020 – 31 May 2024.

KommuneKredit

KommuneKredit is a Danish special-purpose credit institution, providing funding for the local growth and green transition in municipalities and regions across Denmark.

KommuneKredit is an association with sustainability at its core and a strong ESG profile. Our member base consists of all Danish municipal and regional authorities. Our guarantee structure and safe business model have secured us a premium credit rating (AAA) (Aaa).

That is why we can offer municipalities and regions instant and uncomplicated access to financing of projects large or small and at the lowest possible cost. With equal opportunities and terms for all – across the entire country.

That is how it has been since 1899, when KommuneKredit first disbursed a loan. And that is the way it is today, as our dedicated employees advise on and arrange more than 2,000 loans every year.

When investors buy our bonds, we can disburse loans for purposes ranging from energy renovation of a local sports centre to the purchase of a new eco-friendly hybrid ferry, or the establishment of more sustainable district heating systems across the country.

For the benefit of ordinary citizens, for our local communities, and for an even greener future.
