Press release -

Lara Gut-Behrami returns to Europe with the red jersey in the Giant Slalom

The women's events saw two Giant Slaloms held this weekend at Mont Tremblant in Canada. In the second race on Sunday, Lara Gut-Behrami raced to the podium again, this time in second place. On Saturday, the Swiss athlete finished fifth. Notching up 325 points in four races, she retains the Giant Slalom red jersey.

"Lara Gut-Behrami's performance to reach second place on Sunday was very good, on Saturday it was unfortunately not quite enough to podium. However, if you are wearing the red jersey after four races, that's something you can live with very well," emphasizes HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. "A J Hurt had already shown what she can do in Killington, and this weekend again she skied with the minimum of mistakes on the second run. This is a very high standard, which is looking extremely promising for us. The weather conditions were really tough for the top 5 athletes. While we can be satisfied with the results, it was a bit of a dodgy situation in competitive terms. In Beaver Creek we put in two good training days, but poor weather conditions meant not one single race was held. It is especially rough that Broderick Thompson and Henrik von Appen are injured and had to drop out. It was a turbulent weekend."

A J Hurt snatches first top-ten result

In challenging weather conditions with snowfall and strong winds, Lara Gut-Behrami moved up from third to second place in run two on Sunday. Following her two victories in Sölden and Killington, the 32-year-old remains at the top of the Giant Slalom rankings at the end of the two races in Mont Tremblant. A J Hurt was also delighted with her result on Sunday. Finishing in ninth place, the US athlete made it into the top-ten for the first time in a World Cup race. Previously, her best result in the World Cup was 18th place in the Giant Slalom in Courchevel in December 2020. Starting with bib number 37, the 22-year-old raced to 23rd place on the first run, while on the second run she crossed the finish line to clock the fifth fastest time.
