The half-year results for Havila Kystruten

Havila Kystruten has today published its quarterly financial report for the second quarter of 2022, and with that the half-year financial results for the shipping company are ready.

The results show that Havila Kystruten had a profit before tax of minus 223 million NOK. The income was a total of 113 million NOK, and the operating result before depreciation was minus 107 million NOK.

«We have had a challenging six months with delayed delivery of Havila Castor, and not least that Havila Capella was out of service between 12th of April and 28th of June due to a lack of insurance linked to the sanctions against the company that financed the ship», says CEO Bent Martini in Havila Coastal Route.

«As a result of the uncertainty, we have experienced declining turnover in the first half of the year. We estimate that we have lost around 80 million NOK in income just during Havila Capella's period out of operation».

The company's next two ships, Havila Polaris and Havila Pollux, will put in route along the Norwegian Coast no later than 29th of December 2021 and 22ndof March 2023, respectively.

«Due to the energy crisis and the war in Ukraine, the costs we have for liquefied natural gas (LNG) are significantly higher than calculated when the agreement with the Ministry of Transport was signed».

«Nevertheless, we have faith that we will turn to a positive result when we are in full operation along the Norwegian coast, with predictability on the route. The booking numbers for 2023 so far is good», concludes Martini.

The Havila Voyages is a Norwegian shipping company that sails the classic coastal voyage between Bergen and Kirkenes with the Norwegian coast's most environmentally friendly ships.

The four new ships are loaded with the world's largest battery pack, and can sail for four hours without noise or emissions through vulnerable fjords. The batteries are charged with clean hydropower at shore, and when the batteries are low we switch to natural gas which cuts CO2 by around 25 %.

The hull is specially designed for maximum energy efficiency, and excess heat from cooling water and sea used for heating on board. On the menu are locally made dishes from local producers, and all unnecessary plastic is avoided. We are already exceeding the authorities' requirements for cutting emission, and we have set sail with zero emissions as the future target.

The Havila Voyages is part of the Havila Group that dates back to the 1950s. It all started when the founder, Per Sævik, bought his first fishing boat in his teens. From fishing and herring fishing, Havila is now a group operating in shipping technology, offshore, transport and tourism.
