Ovako extends logistics contract with Green Cargo

Green Cargo and Ovako have extended the shuttle agreements for Smeboxpendeln and Hälleforspendeln for an additional three years. With five cycles a week throughout the year, steel materials are transported in one direction and scrap in the other for recycling in production.

Freight is transported in both directions on the Hälleforspendeln, which runs between Hofors and Hällefors, and on the Smeboxpendeln, which runs between Smedjebacken and Boxholm. More than 10,000 truck loads would be needed each year to replace these two rail solutions. The contract also includes switching and wagon loading services out of and into Ovako’s factory.

“We are both pleased and proud that Ovako has continued to choose us as their logistics supplier,” says Bengt-Åke Johansson, Key Account Manager for Green Cargo. “We have a regular dialog about continuous efficiency enhancements and adaptations to meet Ovako’s requirements. Together with Ovako, we have created a new concept for load beds so the wagons are better adapted to Ovako’s needs.”

We serve close to 300 locations in Sweden, Norway and Denmark through our network, and with our partners we reach all of Europe. Green Cargo is owned by the Swedish State. We transport 20 million tonnes of freight, have 1,800 employees and annual sales of about SEK 4,2 billion (2023).
