GlobalConnect Group hires leading quantum researcher
GlobalConnect Group has hired Mads Friis Frand-Madsen as Quantum Engineer to develop concrete solutions that can protect the group’s customers from being attacked using quantum technology.
Quantum technology is a focus area for GlobalConnect Group because, in addition to being able to solve complex problems, the enormous computing power of quantum computers will be able to break the encryptions that currently protect sensitive data in society's critical digital infrastructure from falling into the wrong hands.
"It's a two-sided coin where we use quantum technology to protect our digital infrastructure and customers' data from attacks from quantum computers. It's the perfect time for GlobalConnect to strengthen our investment in quantum technology, because we're facing a quantum revolution with plenty of opportunities, but also with serious threats," says Søren Henriksen, responsible for quantum at GlobalConnect Group.
From research to real-life
"I will bring my knowledge from the academic world into play to develop solutions for GlobalConnect's customers where we can secure their data in the future with groundbreaking technology. The quantum revolution is getting closer, and there is a need to support companies and organisations in understanding, utilising, and especially protecting themselves against the technology," says Mads Friis Frand-Madsen.
Among other things, he will help drive GlobalConnect Group's collaboration with several ministries and universities on Denmark's first quantum-safe communication network in the project 'Danish Quantum Communication Infrastructure' (QCI.DK). The first part of the project will extend over 200 km of GlobalConnect's fiber network. It is planned to be part of a larger European quantum network within a few years, which will serve as a defense against the threat that quantum computers can pose in the wrong hands.
Mads Friis Frand-Madsen started in the position on September 1, 2024. He holds an MSc and Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Copenhagen, with a special focus on quantum technology.
