Celebrating Women in Wind: Denisa Ivanciu Journey at Global Wind Service
At Global Wind Service, we recognize and celebrate the incredible contributions of women in our industry. International Women’s Day is an opportunity to highlight the talent and dedication of the women who help drive our success every day.
One of those women is Denisa Ivanciu, who joined GWS in May 2021. What began as a new challenge quickly turned into a rewarding career, allowing her to grow and thrive.
Denisa shares her journey, the lessons she has learned, and what she enjoys most about being part of GWS.
1. What brought you to GWS, and how did your journey begin?
I’ve been with GWS since May 2021, and honestly, I came into this industry completely by chance. My friend Cristina mentioned that her team needed an assistant, and I decided to give it a try.
I didn’t have any previous experience in the wind industry, but I saw it as an opportunity to learn something new and take on a fresh challenge. Sometimes, the best career moves are the ones you don’t plan for!
2. What were your first impressions when you started at GWS?
I felt out of my comfort zone at first! Coming from a different background, everything was new, where I had to quickly learn about various certifications and processes.
But what made the biggest difference was the support and encouragement I received from my colleagues. Everyone was so patient and willing to teach me, which made me feel welcome and part of the team from day one.
Last year, I transitioned into the Project Support team, which allows me to work more closely with people. At this stage in my career, this shift aligns perfectly with what I enjoy most—helping others and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
3. What does a typical day look like for you?
No two days are ever the same! My role involves planning training, managing schedules, organizing travel, and making sure everything is in place for our technicians before they start a project.
I work closely with project teams to ensure everyone has what they need to succeed. There are always moving parts, last-minute changes, and new challenges, but that’s what keeps it exciting!
4. What’s the most challenging part of your job, and how do you handle it?
The biggest challenge is managing unexpected changes. A flight can get canceled, a project timeline can shift, or new requirements can come up at the last minute.
It can be stressful, but I’ve learned to stay calm, focus on solutions, and take things step by step. Over time, you become more adaptable, and that makes all the difference.
5. What are you most proud of in your career at GWS?
For me, it’s incredibly fulfilling to see people I’ve helped succeed. Lately, I’ve been working a lot with new entrants—many of whom, like me, started without previous industry experience.
Watching them gain confidence, complete their training, and take their first steps in their careers is something that makes me really proud. Knowing that I played even a small role in their growth is a great feeling.
6. How would you describe the support and development opportunities at GWS?
At GWS, the support is very hands-on and practical. When I started, I had to learn everything from scratch, but there was always someone willing to help, guide, and answer questions.
What I appreciate most is that learning never stops. I’ve had opportunities to grow, take on new challenges, and explore different roles—which is something I truly value.
7. What do you enjoy most about your job ?
I really enjoy working with new entrants. There’s something fulfilling about helping people take their first steps in the industry, especially because I know what it’s like to feel completely lost at the beginning.
I also enjoy the logistical side of my role—planning training, organizing travel, and solving the puzzle of how to make everything work smoothly. It’s challenging but also very satisfying.
8. What skills or traits do you think are essential for someone in your position?
Adaptability is key. Plans change constantly, so you have to be comfortable with switching gears at a moment’s notice.
Strong organizational skills are also a must—there are so many details to manage, from training schedules to travel arrangements.
And of course, patience—both with people and with situations that don’t always go as planned!
9. What would you say to someone considering a career in the wind industry?
Keep an open mind. You don’t need to know everything from day one—most of us start with zero industry experience. The most important thing is your willingness to learn and adapt.
10. If you could describe your experience at GWS in one word or phrase, what would it be?
“Adapting with the wind.”
It’s a bit of a wordplay, but I think it captures both the dynamic nature of the wind industry and the flexibility required in my role to keep everything running smoothly, no matter how unpredictable things get.
