Ship Diary part 10: coming home

And so we reached the end of Fure Viten’s maiden journey, passing the small island of Donsö and the home of Furetank. Step by step we are settling in on the ship which is running just as smoothly and efficiently as we hoped. Thank you for following us all the way from China to Europe! We send you off with a few highlights from the last few days at sea and life on board, as Fure Viten joins her sister vessels in our modern and sustainable tanker fleet.

Ship Diary part 8: The Suez Canal

We had a sunny, hot and long day passing through the canal. Instead of going around Africa, the Suez Canal saves us about 5000 nm and almost 3 weeks on our voyage to Europe.
Fure Viten completed the canal passage with flying colours, now the vessel is finally in the Mediterranean. 

Up next: discharging in Barcelona.

Ship diary part 7: the Piracy High Risk Area.

It has been busy days onboard Fure Viten. A couple of days after passing Sri Lanka we hade three very welcome guests onboard, a security team. Together we prepared the vessel for passing the Piracy High Risk Area in the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea. Mounting fire hoses around the vessel to make it harder to climb onboard, making sure all areas were locked and conducting drills is just a few examples of security measures taken.

After a safe passage the security team left us in the Red Sea. A big thanks to you!

Next stop: the Suez Canal.

Hoisting the blue and yellow banner means that Fure Viten now belongs to Furetank and can head for home. In the picture you see the proud crew of a vessel that gained a lot of media attention the last few days, for already meeting the IMO 2050 emission targets. Starting her maiden voyage surely is a good feeling. Next time we will report from the open sea and let you know how she performs!

The gas-powered tanker, just delivered in China, is designed by Furetank together with FKAB Marine Design and @wartsilacorp with a unique combination of fuel-saving solutions, reaching the best score in its size segment on the @imo_hq energy efficiency scale. This means that Furetank’s new vessel series today already meets the emission targets for 2050.
