Voss becomes the extreme sports capital of the world for the 24th time

From 26. June – 3. July, top athletes from all around the world, together with thousands of visitors creates the small town of Voss into the extreme sports capital of the world. After two years of pandemic, Ekstremsportveko has an impressive program.

- Finally, Ekstremsportveko is back in town, this time even bigger and better. The festival means a lot to the identity and brand of Voss. The fact that we can host the world’s largest extreme sports festival every summer, which attracts athletes from all over the world, gives the town great international attention, says Gry Bystøl, manager of Visit Voss.

Ekstremsportveko is the world’s largest extreme sports festival, and is hosted every year in Voss, Western Norway. What started as a joint extreme sports festival amongst kayakers, rafters, sky divers and paragliders in 1998, have grown to become the worlds’ largest extreme sports festival of its kind. This year marks the 24th edition of the popular extreme sports festival.

Guarantees goosebumps for the spectators

The line-up for this year’s event is impressive and includes high speed, adrenaline, world championships and a great mix of the four elements: air, water, earth and fire. 22 official sports are on the program, with a total of 34 competitions and 1200 athletes.

-This year’s program has a great variety, and includes the world championships in whitewater kayaking, European Cup in Downhill, the world-famous BASE-jumping competition in Gudvangen as well as popular spectator competitions such as Urban downhill (MTB), precision landing for paragliders and a cliff diving competition. We can guarantee our spectators to get goosebumps during this week, Bystøl says.

Voss – the adventure capital for all ages

In addition to the action-packed competitions, Ekstremsportveko also includes softer activities as well as a large-scale festival program.

- Ekstremsportveko has over the last years built up a unique activity program for kids, youth and adults. A great way for visitors to try some of the sports in a safe environment, Bystøl adds.

When visiting Voss, located in the heart of Fjord Norway - prepare to be amazed by the contrasts. One moment it`s all about the adrenaline and amazing activities, the next about relaxing in the finest of natural landscapes. Throughout the year Voss offers a large assortment of activities that you can choose from.

During Ekstremsportveko, a temporary festival arena is built alongside the lake Vangsvatnet. At nighttime, the visitors can come watch the recap of the day called Today’s Video, party, and listen to top national and international artists. Amongst this years’ line-up you can see Grandmaster Flash, Turbonegro, Inner Circle and Kjartan Lauritzen.
