Discovery Evo – the next stage in developments

Fagerhult’s big seller Discovery is now moving into the LED era. With an efficiency of 115 lm/W and luminous flux of up to 1700 lm, new possibilities are opened up for functional, cost-efficient lighting in any area of a building.

When Fagerhult launched Discovery the premise was entirely new. The ambition was to offer a straightforward, simple and easy to work with concept where a single luminaire would satisfy the need for good, energy-efficient lighting in environments that were previously too tricky to solve.

“We felt that certain environments were being ignored when lighting was planned. More out-of-the-way areas such as stairwells, corridors, kitchens, bathrooms and cellars often had solutions with poorer light patterns and performance, which were not at all in tune with the overall idiom. There was quite simply nothing decent available. As a manufacturer of luminaires, we wanted to create an easily planned luminaire with high energy efficiency and a really good light,” explains Peter Björkman, Product Manager at Fagerhult.

Discovery was designed by Fagerhult’s designer Wilma Daemen, who was also behind the popular Pleiad, which was an instant success. Sales of that luminaire have now reached millions. So when the time came to launch a new version with LED, it seemed obvious to develop an entirely new luminaire based on the new technology.

“As LED offers totally different opportunities compared with traditional light sources, new development is the only way to go if you want to optimise the outcome. We have reinforced all the benefits of the concept and added new properties. Discovery Evo is even more versatile, if that’s even possible, with new applications for demanding environments. The concept includes a basic model with IP 44, an anti-ligature version with IK 10 and a luminaire for outdoor use that combines IK 10 with IP 65.”

The design was produced by Yellon, who made Discovery slimmer than its predecessor in terms of form, but more solid in its expression. Its efficiency is among the best in class at no less than 115 lm/W. Two luminous flux, 1100 and 1700, and two colour temperatures, 3000 K and 4000 K, make it possible to control the lighting environment with regard to the area of application.

A luminaire that is installed in large numbers, in spaces that are often awkward to access, requires efficient installation. An innovative installation solution with a recess ring and a user-friendly light package makes installation smooth and safe – Discovery Evo is among the fastest in the market.
