Approved grinder from Ceado

Ceado is an Italian manufacturer of coffee grinders, burrs and bar equipment. Recently, the European Coffee Brewing Centre has approved the Lixe X Coffee Grinder.

“It's great that a major grinder manufacturer like Ceado sees the importance of approved grinders”, says Ole Sønstebø at ECBC. He has tested and approved coffee equipment for 20 years, and has a lot of experience.

“For coffee enthusiasts, the grinder is just as important as the brewing equipment.”

The European Coffee Brewing Centre cooperates with the Specialty Coffee Organization on common standards for coffee makers. The ECBC is the only test center running an approval program for home grinders.

This is being tested:

  • Particle size distribution: the coffee grinder must be able to produce a prescribed grind distribution within 5% of the ECBC Filter grind standard.
  • Grind retention: the coffee grinder must be able to dispense ground coffee without retaining much coffee.
  • Uniformity of performance: to assure the grinder is both consistent in grind settings and reliable, it will be tested for uniformity of performance.
  • Coffee volume: the hopper must be able to accommodate at least 60 grams of coffee beans.
  • Uniformity of extraction: ability to produce coffee that can be brewed according to the ECBC Gold cup standard.

Stig Hiller, technical manager at ECBC, is pleased that renowned manufacturers now want to include their grinders in the approval program, and congratulates Ceado on passing the test.

“Approved grinders have the right to use the Seal of Approval and obtain recognition for their product. This should provide the consumer with a sense of security regarding grind quality”.

Ceado about the Life X grinder:

At the core of the Life X are the revolutionary X Burrs: 50mm blind burrs crafted from high-grade steel with an innovative geometry. These burrs are designed to handle every brewing style, from rich, flavorful espressos all the way up to crispy clean pour- over filter brews, Chemex, and even French press.

The enhanced height of the grind chamber and the unique burr geometry allow the grinder to adapt to coarser settings by impacting coffee beans differently, drastically reducing fines. This results in consistently clean brews, free of the muddy taste often associated with espresso grinders attempting filter grinds. Static is also minimized thanks to the new flap design, ensuring a tidy brewing process.

Better Coffee

The European Coffee Brewing Centre (ECBC) was established in 1971 by the Norwegian Coffee Association. Our mission has always been to improve the technical qualities of the brewers. ECBC has since 1975 been testing and certifying coffee-brewing equipment for the seal of approval. The centre was supported financially by the International Coffee Organization (ICO) for many years and is now one of the few independent coffee-brewing test centres in the world. Many of the large international manufacturers of coffee-brewing equipment send their brewers to ECBC to test for approval.
