Mapping key dimensions of industrial relations in Europe

Despite the dramatic transformation of collective industrial relations in recent decades, there are good reasons why they still play an important role in EU Member States and in society today. Well-functioning industrial relations are efficient mechanisms for achieving better business performance, act as tools for redistributing income, and provide a set of collective values for a society as a whole. A new report from Eurofound highlights four key dimensions of industrial relations systems: industrial democracy, industrial competitiveness, job and employment quality, and social justice.

These key dimensions, along with the conceptual framework proposed in the report, have the potential to serve
as a monitoring tool to assess developments in industrial relations systems across the EU.
