International student program brings cultural and economic benefits to San Luis Obispo
October 30, San Luis Obispo, CA – This past week, Morro Bay High School and San Luis Obispo High School welcomed an unexpected group of visitors: international education agents from Vietnam, Italy, China, Brazil, Thailand, Germany, and Taiwan. Instead of exploring California’s famous landmarks, these global agents joined Educatius, an organization with 21 years of experience placing qualified international students in American high schools and host families.
The agents work closely with students before they leave their home countries to study high school abroad, and this visit offered them a chance to meet students, teachers, and host families in the San Luis Obispo area. By experiencing these schools firsthand, the agents gained valuable insights into the academic and cultural opportunities available in this vibrant community.
Each year, hundreds of U.S. high schools open their doors to international students through Educatius’ high school programs. These talented teens enter the USA on an F-1 student visa and live with local American families, enriching the community with new cultural perspectives and forming lasting connections. Families host for a range of reasons—some to introduce their children to diverse cultures, others to welcome a new bond into their lives. According to the Survey Center on American Life, 49% of American families highly value cultural exposure, making hosting an international student an impactful and enriching experience. Host families also receive a monthly stipend.
The Lasting Impact on Students and Schools
The benefits of hosting international students extend beyond cultural enrichment. Educatius' F-1 students also contribute financially to their high schools, as each student’s tuition supports school programs, resources, and extracurricular activities. This financial support often helps boost budgets, creating a learning environment grounded in diversity and inclusion that benefits all students.
For international students, the experience is transformative. Beyond improving their language skills, they gain valuable academic achievements, develop a deep understanding of American culture, and build lifelong connections with their host families. Many alumni describe their hosts as a “second family,” staying in touch long after the program ends, and often visiting each other’s countries in the years that follow.
Educatius’ Role in Global Connections
This tour of San Luis Obispo high schools reflects Educatius’ dedication to fostering global connections across cultures, creating support networks that benefit students and communities alike. During the visit, agents experienced American high school life firsthand, understanding the unique aspects of each school that attract students worldwide.
With a growing demand for American high school programs, Educatius is uniquely positioned to guide exchange students from over 60 countries, helping them find the right schools to meet their academic goals, caring host families, and continuous support throughout their exchange experience.
For San Luis Obispo families interested in hosting, the rewards extend beyond cultural experiences. By welcoming an international student, they contribute to their community, foster global understanding, and create connections that bridge continents.
